Modelling Brewing Industry Pricing
T. Maier
AGRIS on-line Papers in Economics and Informatics , 2012,
Abstract: The aim of this contribution is to analyse the price behaviour of the second to eleventh strongest brewers on the Czech market on the basis of the price behaviour of the price leader, this being Plzen sky Prazdroj (a member of SABMiller). Using monthly prices (the number of observations is generally 108 periods), is modelled the length of delay between the price leader and the other breweries making a price change. A linear regressive analysis is used to produce the model. The beer brands are divided into 3 segments: super- premium, mainstream and non-alcoholic beer and prices are modelled separately for barrelled and bottled beer if the data is available to allow it. The results of each brewery’s behaviour are summarised in conclusion. The information presented in the article is the product of working on the Research Plan MSM 6046070906, “The Economics of Czech agriculture resources and their efficient use within a multifunctional agri-food systems framework”.
CT-Kolonoskopie
Maier A,Mang T

RA and FGF Signalling Are Required in the Zebrafish Otic Vesicle to Pattern and Maintain Ventral Otic Identities

PLOS Genetics , 2014, DOI: doi/10.1371/journal.pgen.1004858
Abstract: During development of the zebrafish inner ear, regional patterning in the ventral half of the otic vesicle establishes zones of gene expression that correspond to neurogenic, sensory and non-neural cell fates. FGF and Retinoic acid (RA) signalling from surrounding tissues are known to have an early role in otic placode induction and otic axial patterning, but how external signalling cues are translated into intrinsic patterning during otic vesicle (OV) stages is not yet understood. FGF and RA signalling pathway members are expressed in and around the OV, suggesting important roles in later patterning or maintenance events. We have analysed the temporal requirement of FGF and RA signalling for otic development at stages after initial anteroposterior patterning has occurred. We show that high level FGF signalling acts to restrict sensory fates, whereas low levels favour sensory hair cell development; in addition, FGF is both required and sufficient to promote the expression of the non-neural marker otx1b in the OV. RA signalling has opposite roles: it promotes sensory fates, and restricts otx1b expression and the development of non-neural fates. This is surprisingly different from the earlier requirement for RA signalling in specification of non-neural fates via tbx1 expression, and highlights the shift in regulation that takes place between otic placode and vesicle stages in zebrafish. Both FGF and RA signalling are required for the development of the otic neurogenic domain and the generation of otic neuroblasts. In addition, our results indicate that FGF and RA signalling act in a feedback loop in the anterior OV, crucial for pattern refinement.
Neutron scattering as a probe of the Fe-pnicitide superconducting gap

Physics , 2008, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.78.020514
Abstract: Inelastic neutron scattering provides a probe for studying the spin and momentum structure of the superconducting gap. Here, using a two-orbital model for the Fe-pnicitide superconductors and an RPA-BCS approximation for the dynamic spin susceptibility, we explore the scattering response for various gaps that have been proposed.
Pair Structure and the Pairing Interaction in a Bilayer Hubbard Model
T. A. Maier,D. J. Scalapino
Physics , 2011,
Abstract: The bilayer Hubbard model with an intra-layer hopping $t$ and an inter-layer hopping $t_\perp$ provides an interesting testing ground for several aspects of what has been called unconventional superconductivity. One can study the type of pair structures which arise when there are multiple Fermi surfaces. One can also examine the pairing for a system in which the structure of the spin-fluctuation spectral weight can be changed. Using a dynamic cluster quantum Monte Carlo approximation, we find that near half-filling, if the splitting between the bonding and anti-bonding bands $t_\perp/t$ is small, the gap has $B_{1g}$ ($d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave) symmetry but when the splitting becomes larger, $A_{1g}$ ($s^\pm$-wave) pairing is favored. We also find that in the $s^\pm$ pairing region, the pairing is driven by inter-layer spin fluctuations and that $T_c$ is enhanced.
Pairing interaction near a nematic QCP of a 3-band CuO$_2$ model

Physics , 2014,
Abstract: Here we calculate the strength of the $d$-wave pairing and the $k$ dependence of the gap function associated with the nematic fluctuations of a CuO$_2$ model as the doping $p$ approaches a quantum critical point. Higher order $d$-wave harmonics contribute to the $k$ dependence of the resulting superconducting gap function reflecting the longer range nature of the nematic pairing interaction.
Charge transfer statistics of a molecular quantum dot with strong electron-phonon interaction

Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.83.085401
Abstract: We analyze the nonequilibrium transport properties of a quantum dot with a harmonic degree of freedom (Holstein phonon) coupled to metallic leads, and derive its full counting statistics (FCS). Using the Lang-Firsov (polaron) transformation, we construct a diagrammatic scheme to calculate the cumulant generating function. The electron-phonon interaction is taken into account exactly, and the employed approximation represents a summation of a diagram subset with respect to the tunneling amplitude. By comparison to Monte Carlo data the formalism is shown to capture the basic properties of the strong coupling regime.
Dynamic cluster quantum Monte Carlo simulations of a two-dimensional Hubbard model with stripe-like charge density wave modulations: Interplay between inhomogeneity and superconductivity

Physics , 2009, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.104.247001
Abstract: Using dynamic cluster quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we study the superconducting behavior of a 1/8 doped two-dimensional Hubbard model with imposed uni-directional stripe-like charge density wave modulation. We find a significant increase of the pairing correlations and critical temperature relative to the homogeneous system when the modulation length-scale is sufficiently large. With a separable form of the irreducible particle-particle vertex, we show that optimized superconductivity is obtained for moderate modulation strength due to a delicate balance between the modulation enhanced pairing interaction, and a concomitant suppression of the bare particle-particle excitations by a modulation reduction of the quasi-particle weight.
Narrow-line magneto-optical trap for dysprosium atoms
T. Maier,H. Kadau,M. Schmitt,A. Griesmaier,T. Pfau
Physics , 2014, DOI: 10.1364/OL.39.003138
Abstract: We present our technique to create a magneto-optical trap for dysprosium atoms using the narrow-line cooling transition at 626$\,$nm to achieve suitable conditions for direct loading into an optical dipole trap. The magneto-optical trap is loaded from an atomic beam via a Zeeman slower using the strongest atomic transition at 421$\,$nm. With this combination of two cooling transitions we can trap up to $2.0\cdot10^8$ atoms at temperatures down to 6$\, \mu$K. This cooling approach is simpler than present work with ultracold dysprosium and provides similar starting conditions for a transfer to an optical dipole trap.
